When 2 numbers that have the same sign, you add them together the sum has the sign that both number have -8+-3=-11
When 2 numbers have different signs you find the different between the two numbers. The 'sum'/answer has the same sign as the larger number 8+-12=-4 12-8=4 -4 I had no help, no lie
3-4= -7...better double check that. I think that you are forgetting a sign in there somewhere because those numbers do not have the same sign. Also- what do you do to the two numbers with different signs. Nice explaining that it will have the sign of the larger number.
When you have two positive numbers you have to add them together same with negative numbers you have to add them together but when their is one negative number and positive number you have to subtract each other ex I V Positive +1+7=+8 Negative -1+7=-8 Both -1-+7=+6
Can you give an example of the second one...adding two numbers with different signs. I just want you to prove this. For example try, -4 + 10 = N. What would N be? What did you do to get it?
with the same sign just add and put the same sign on the sum with not the same sign you brow from the larger number and try to make (0) and what is left over is the sum and don't do anything to it or the sign
Can you provide an example that shows you borrowing from the larger number to make zero for numbers that have different signs? That might help make it a little more clear.
When you have to positives you add them together and make another positive when you have two negatives you add them together and make another negative when you have a positive and a negative you subtract them and you keep the sign of the bigger number.
Nice, but why is there a question mark at the end of the 2nd statement? Are you not 100% sure? Try some examples on here and see if your conjecture is true.

Yamni- Great examples. Nicely done hitting both types of problem for the assignment.

ReplyDeleteWhen any two numbers that have the same like sign like Positive + or Negative-
ReplyDelete1+8+=9+
3-4-=7-
When 2 numbers have different symbols the sum will have the same symbol as the large number :)

when adding two #s with the same sign add the two #s and put the sign the #s have in front of the sum.
ReplyDeleteWhen adding two #s with different signs add them but the sum's sign is the one who has the larger #.

Your second example doesn't have two numbers with the same sign. -9 + -1 = N. What about when two numbers have different signs?

Devan!!! Beautiful!!! The only thing that would enhance this is examples. Give it a try!!

if they are both negative or positive you add them and keep the sine.
ReplyDeleteCheck your spelling on sine...

ReplyDeleteWhen is this true?

Deleteuhh...im 100% sure....and do i have to do some example?
Deleteexamples:
when they have the same signs-
-2+-3=-5
10+5=15
when they have different signs-
10+-15=-5
-20(+)+20=0
examples:
ReplyDeletewhen they have the same signs add-
-3+-2=-5
5+10=15
when they have different signs subtract-
-15+-10=-5
+20(+)-20=0
